Philosophy Discussion Group

“The purpose of the group is to prepare pre-PhD students for graduate and professional-level work in philosophy. To that end, we will be reading material nominated by you from your university studies. Though we may occasionally read material by Objectivists, we will spend far more time reading from the history of philosophy and contemporary philosophy. I expect everyone wishing to participate in the group to nominate readings and facilitate discussions. Depending on the size of the group, that may mean you will be responsible for a reading once every few weeks or once every few months. One final, preliminary comment. The purpose of the group is to help students in the early-stages of their pursuit of a career in philosophy. That means I will prioritize the needs and interests of students currently enrolled in a philosophy program or applying to graduate school. My standard of success is that our young philosophers get into more, better PhD programs. If that’s not your goal, you’re still very welcome to participate, but please manage your expectations accordingly.” – Mike Mazza
